MINUTES
OF MONTHLY
BOARD
MEETING
O REGONIANS FOR NEBRASKAMay 9, 2009
The May Board meeting was held following the Postal Workers' Food Drive on May 9, 2009:
WHERE: Clackamas Post Office.
PRESENT: Celeste Abdala Leigh Kluthe Chuck Mussman Sandy Mussman Patty Richardson John Schulling Lisa Todd Steve Todd ABSENT: Angel ParmeterRoger Parmeter
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Leigh Kluthe, President, presided at the meeting, and Patty Richardson, Secretary, recorded the minutes. There being 8 of the 10 directors in attendance, the Secretary confirmed that a quorum was present.
Minutes: Minutes of the March Board meeting were approved as submitted.
Treasurer's Report: Current bank balance is $4,021, after the cost of raffle prizes in Lincoln, where about $200 was spent.
Alumni Association: Leigh shared a letter received from Diane Mendenhall at the University.
Guest Speaker: Scott Frost has been contacted about speaking at or attending a chapter event. He is willing to help out, but we would have to work around his schedule. He will be further contacted by email to see if something can be arranged in July, or perhaps for the picnic if his schedule allows once football practice begins. Another option is to invite Joe Wilkes to events; he is currently a fireman for the City of Portland.2
Baseball Game/Big 12 Group Event: Kansas State and Oklahoma have responded favorably about joining us for a Big 12 baseball game. The question arose about whether it would be easier to have each group get their own tickets. Steve will make a block reservation and have the other groups try to get nearby blocks for the Portland Beavers game scheduled on Thursday, June 25. There was discussion whether to get general or reserved seats; the consensus was to go for the middle rate, which is reserved but not in the closest tier to the front. It was also suggested to invite the Washington chapter down to an event if they would like to meet up with Bernadette at the softball game.
Summer Picnic: The picnic is scheduled for August 22 at Dabney State Park in Troutdale.
Publicity/Website: Lee talked to Angel and she did not have anything new.
Fundraiser: As a possible fundraiser - Lee said there is a business catalogue from which you can order parking visors with a logo. The price depends on size, whether card stock or reflective plastic, and if you want a logo. Cost amounts to multiples of 100 at a $24 charge, with special lettering for $42. There are different prices at different print breaks. It was suggested that there might be cheaper items that would go over with more general interest. Patty suggested reusable marketing totes with logo; Chuck suggested pencils and pens.
Scholarship: Lisa called the Foundation to see about the scholarship for this year, but has not gotten a response yet. There was discussion on continuing the endowment fund until big enough to split and then have two funds going or sending $1,000 to Lincoln for a scholarship right away.
Merchandise: Lee purchased carry totes to hold merchandise, etc. At the next meeting, everyone should bring the merchandise they are storing and it will all be divided up so that everyone has responsibility for some part of the inventory to bring to watch parties. There was discussion on the need for a new t-shirt logo. The current style isn't that old. We need to order more black shirts with Oregonians for Nebraska on the back. Someone should call the University to see if they will send a box of goodies to hand out during the season.
Watch Parties: Lee had a meeting with Ed at the restaurant to fill out paperwork to enlist them as an official sponsor. They will meet in July. Forms need to be filled out properly to meet OLCC requirements. We have the entire banquet room reserved for the first game. Ed is going to order the Fairbury franks. He will see what the shipping will be. If shipping is too high, people going back to visit can bring back cases.
Community Service: Chuck reported that there is nothing new. He thanked everyone for their support on the food drive.3
Softball: The softball team plays Tuesday nights at 57th and Halsey. It has been rained out already. Check the Portland Metro Softball Association website, Division J - Bugeaters for games. Steve will send the schedule to Angel to post on the website. The team still needs female outfielders.
Miscellaneous: Regarding the leadership conference in Lincoln - there is no schedule yet. They want to get more people to the spring game, so it might be scheduled during that week. On July 4 Larry the Cable Guy is doing a concert at Memorial Stadium. We should check to see if he is doing a concert here. If so, we could go as a group and maybe invite him to a chapter event. Lisa will follow up. Sandy will send out an announcements for the summer picnic and about the success of the food drive. Chuck would like preparation of a checklist to keep track of requirements for Red Letter Status so that we can watch for what is completed to qualify. Lee is keeping one that he is watching. Application needs to be submitted in July.
Next Meeting: At the meeting next month everyone will bring the totes and merchandise together and we will start working on the picnic. Lee will send an email to get see what are available dates in June. Steve will send a reminder to bring inventory, and then once we have everything together, he will figure out what we need to order and how much. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
Respectfully submitted: Patty Richardson Patty Richardson, Secretary
