                             Minutes of Monthly Board Meeting

                                      Oregonians for Nebraska

                                                                 March 14, 2009

The regular meeting of the Board was held at 3:30 p.m. on March 14, 2009:

WHERE:        Stanford's- Lloyd Center, Portland.

PRESENT:     Leigh Kluthe

Chuck Mussman

Sandy Mussman

Angel Parmeter

Roger Parmeter

Patty Richardson

Lisa Todd

Steve Todd

ABSENT:       Celeste Abdala

John Schulling

The meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m.  Leigh Kluthe, President, presided at the meeting, and Patty Richardson, Secretary, recorded the minutes.  There being 8 of the 10 directors in attendance, the Secretary confirmed that a quorum was present.

Treasurer's Report:  The Treasurer reported a current balance of $3,759.78 in the account, with approximately $250 in receipts not yet deposited.

Committees:

Special Events:

Founders Day - there was discussion on ideas for a speaker.  Scott Frost was favored.  It was felt that April or May might be too soon.  The event could also be held in summer, perhaps in June.  Leigh will look into contacting him about a date in late May or early June.  One suggestion was to hold a "Taste of Nebraska" and invite Scott Frost, but late summer would interfere with the football schedule.  Leigh will ask him about possible dates.  The question was presented as to whether we want a formal event such as at a nice restaurant, or a less formal event.  The first step will be to find out Frost's schedule.

The Washington group would like to have Bernadette come to a meeting with them as a guest at one of their games.  Perhaps it could be a group visit at one of their watch parties with a return visit to one of ours.

Watch Parties:

Leigh has asked The Refectory about uTube clips being projected on the screens and what the charge would be for reserving the banquet room for the first game.  There was a hope that perhaps Ed would advertise our events in The Oregonian sports ads.

Leigh asked both Kansas and Kansas State groups about advertising.  Kansas doesn't advertise because of rules at their university level; they can only advertise through the official alumni association.  Washington has their own radio broadcasts and they advertise that way.  It would be good to get ideas from each other.

Merchandise:

The new hats look good.  Roger wanted to know how many we want to order.  It was suggested to start with 30.  Roger thought more could be sold over the course of the season.  Old hats can go into raffle prizes.  If we mark down old ones to $10 we would lose money, but a mark-down at $15 would still cover costs.  The new hats cost sold at $15 would cover cost plus some extra.

There are still quite a few tumblers left.  Do we want to order coffee cups and continue the free T-shirt with new members or renewals promo?

One raffle prize for next year will be a tied quilt.  We will buy it for $xxx, which is a bargain.  It could be used for a silent auction at Founders Day or at a meet and greet event.

Steve and Lisa will pick up more raffle prizes in April.  They determined that the price for a storage unit was too steep.  Angel suggested keeping all the raffle prizes at their shop and just bringing specific prizes each game.  The same goes for the other merchandise - they would just bring part after the first couple of games.  Whoever is storing merchandise will bring just a small amount each time.

At one time there was discussion about new polo shirts with the new logo.  Angel and Roger will look into that.   Lisa offered to be in charge of raffle prizes.

Community Service:

Chuck shared a letter from St. Vincent De Paul thanking the chapter for donations to their food drive from the watch party.

The food drive with the letter carriers is coming up on May 9.  Lisa asked if we would have a grill for lunch before the drive and go to dinner after.  About 14 people working is just about right.  Chuck would like a goal for 20 people to work.  Roger suggested sandwiches as an alternate to the grill.  The location is the Clackamas/Gladstone Post Office, 9836 SE Empire Court, Clackamas, from 1:00-5:30.

Communications:

Business cards - proofs will be sent out so they can be printed.  We will check on the cost of each member getting their own cards.  Angel passed out mock-ups of the newsletter and invited any articles that people could come up with.

Postcards - we get one mailing from the Association.  It should perhaps be used in July to advertise the picnic and maybe Founders Day.

Sporting Events:

Fourteen are signed up for the hockey event.  We have enough for a coed softball team, but don't know the schedule yet.  Beaver’s alumni night will be some time in June.

Miscellaneous:

Nebraska Picnic will take place on Saturday, August 22, at Dabney State Park in Troutdale, from 11:00-4:00.  We will need helpers to be there earlier to set up.  There will be organized games at the picnic.  Other activities are available, but it spreads out the group too much.  At the previous picnic, everyone enjoyed the chapter activities, especially the water balloon fight.

Migration - information has been received from Lincoln about selling blocks of tickets for a group during football season.  Steve will send out an inquiry regarding interest in attending a game.  The deadline to order is April 20 for club groups; we will know what we could be awarded by May 10 so definite plans can then be made, with payment due by June 1.

There will be a get together to help put out the newsletter, perhaps in Salem.  It was suggested to meet at Angel's office at 3:00 to do the newsletter, with dinner after, on March 21.

There was no new business.

The next Board meeting will take place May 9 after the food drive.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 5:27 p.m.

Respectfully submitted:                    Patty Richardson
