My wife and I really wanted to go to Corvallis to watch the Basketball game last Saturday, but unfortunately had a prior commitment in Seattle. While in Seattle, I was able to swing over the the University with my friend and watch the lady Huskers volleyball team take on the Washington Huskies. Having never attended a college volleyball game, I really didn't know what to expect. Some nice Husker fans had a couple of seats they had been saving for a couple of hours just above mid court in the front part of the second level. They asked if we wanted them, and of course we said sure. The match started out a bit discouraging as the Huskies played lights out and beat the Huskers in two straight games. It seemed like everything the Huskers hit was blocked. After the break, the Huskers came out and apparently made a few changes, because they seemed to be a different team. The took charge of the third game and clobbered the Huskies. Then they held on during a real nail biter for the fourth game. The fifth game started and the Huskies seemed to take control jumping up by a score of 9-3. The Huskers when on a tear and scored 9 straight points to go up 12-9. The Huskies came back to tie at 13-13 before the Big read got a side out and made the score 14-13 with the serve. Now...remember at the beginning, I mentioned that I had not seen a college volleyball game...we I had not seen any competitive volleyball games and did not realize the the 5th game only went to 15 points. When the lady Husker served an ace on the next serve, the Husker team and fans went bezerk...at first I did not understand what was happening, but then realized they just won the match. It was one of the most incredible sporting events I have ever seen! The momentum changes, the athleticism, and the excitement were something to behold. Sorry guys, but I am now glad I missed the basketball game for this event. Steve
